Four 2015 Recipients of Sunstar/RDH Award of Distinction honored at RDH Under One Roof Conference

13 August 2015

The 2015 recipients are: • Amy Kinnamon, RDH, of Mainville, Ohio • Sarah Kowalski, RDH, of Happy Valley, Oregon • Lory Laughter, RDH, of Napa, California • Michelle Marusiak, RDH, of Sturgeon County, Alberta, Canada

“The 2015 Sunstar RDH Award of Distinction recipients have entered into an organization of 109 highly influential dental hygienists,” said Jackie Sanders, RDH, manager of professional relations at Sunstar Americas. “This year’s inductees are each making a positive impact on large populations, reaching out to the Appalachian culture, the state of Oregon, the aging population in Canada, and a progressive dental hygiene community.”

Kinnamon was praised for her outreach efforts in the rural communities in eastern Ohio, where she obtained certification to expedite restorative dental treatment for pediatric patients. Kowalski received acclaim for her work with the Dental Pilot Project at Oregon’s Health Authority’s Public Health Division. Laughter’s work as a national advocate for the dental hygiene profession was honored, and Marusiak’s career in treating geriatric patients in long-term facilities in Alberta was acknowledged.

Sunstar Americas, a leading producer of consumer oral health products, and RDH magazine, published by PennWell Corp., started the Award of Distinction in 2002 to pay tribute to dental hygienists who go “above and beyond the traditional expectations,” Sanders said.
